Under Linux, we have a lot of choices. There are indeed many distributions that offer different versions of Linux, fortunately all compatible with each other. The easiest to use is certainly Ubuntu, a very popular and easy-to-use distribution.

Shell Unix, KDE Plasma, MATE, Cinnamon, Unity, LXDE, Elementary OS, Xfce. They are the graphic engines of Linux distributions. Graphical interfaces can be combined on Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Xfce, etc.).
