The Lille citadel is a military structure built in the 17th century for the defense of Lille and as part of the precarious area. Named by Vauban himself the « reine des citadelles », l'ouvrage militaire est remarquable par ses dimensions, la qualité de son architecture et son état de conservation actuel.
The entire citadel was classified as historic monument by decree of September 5, 2012, after different components were classified in 1914, 1921 and 1934. src wiki
The 60 hectares of the Bois de Boulogne form the largest green space in the city, around the ramparts of the Citadel and along du canal de la Deûle. At the foot of the ramparts of the Citadel, in 3.5 hectares of woods, nestles the Zoo de Lille. It is home to 100 animal species. In total, no fewer than 400 animals live together. Beautiful winter landscape in 2018. (Lille tourist office) slideshow
