Lille City Hall was built by architect Emile Dubuisson who was inspired by the Flemish tradition by using a resolutely modern material: reinforced concrete. The construction site, started in 1924, continued under the mandate of Roger Salengro, mayor of Lille from 1925, who decided to added a belfry.
